STEAM Level II: Primary years
Year/Grade 4-6 (Ages 8-12)
science & engineering essentials
This workshop explores science and engineering "essentials"— ideas and thinking tools necessary for science learning. Good thinkers listen or read carefully and question whether what they see or hear is true and accurate. This habit of questioning and evaluating the value of any claim is called Critical Thinking. Critical thinking implies a skepticism or doubt about claims that are made with bias, and/or without supporting evidence that can be validated through repeatable experimentation. In this workshop, students will discover what science is, how scientists think critically, how to apply the scientific method, and how to design a controlled experiment.
Students will build machines using LEGO® Technic bricks and motors to understand basic mechanical and electical engineering concepts.
Throughout the year, we will also explore the basic concepts of matter, measurement, motion & forces, heat & energy, waves & light, probability & statistics, cosmology, evolution, climate & ecology - all while encouraging investigation skills.
mechanical computer engineering
This workshop explores how computers really function and the basics of computer engineering. Children will discover how simple, mechanical switches, connected together in clever ways, can do incredibly smart things and learn about their analogues found in all electrical computing devices.
Students will build mechanical computing machines to understand basic computer engineering concepts to include circuit design, binary operations, memory, logic gates, conditionals, truth tables.
We offers students the opportunity to peek under the hood of computers and discover how they really work. It is hands-on, fun, easy to learn and the logic is all right there in front of them.
Mind, Body & Soul : Yoga 4 Kids
The benefits of Yoga for children and young people are proven, both in terms of concentration, relaxation, but also in improved self-esteem. Through fun and interactive excercises, children will discover the benefits of Yoga, improving balance, coordination, and flexibility.
During this workshop, children will have the opportunity to discover that there is not one form of intelligence but multiple intelligences. We all have a bouquet of nine intelligences: body, interpersonal and intrapersonal, logical, verbal-linguistic, visual-spatial, musical-rhythmic, naturalistic and existential. Through fun exercises, children will explore these nine intelligences.
Through this workshop, children will learn more about their body, and learn to live in harmony with themselves and others.
