Science & Engineering Essentials

Good thinkers listen or read carefully and question whether what they see or hear is true and accurate. This habit of questioning and assessing the value of any claim is called Critical Thinking. It implies a skepticism or doubt about claims that are made without supporting evidence that can be validated through repeatable experimentation. In this workshop, children will discover what science is, how scientists think critically, how to apply the scientific method, and how to design a controlled experiment. The workshop is divided in 4 modules where the students will be exposed to different concepts and activities.

Module 1 - Science Essentials

.
On Science essentials, we'll explore the basics of everyday physics like simple mechanics, motion, forces, energy and many other interesting concepts through experimentation and encouraging investigation skills.

Module 2 - Applied Simple Machines

Students will build machines using LEGO® Technic bricks to understand basic mechanical engineering concepts.
During this work the children are encouraged to involve themselves in real world investigations and problem-solving. They make assumptions and predictions. They design and make models and then observe the behaviour of these models; they reflect and re-design, and then record and present their findings.

Module 3 - Mechanical Computers

We will explores how computers really function and the basics of computer engineering. Children will discover how simple, mechanical switches, connected together in clever ways, can do incredibly smart things and learn about their analogues found in all electrical computing devices. We will build mechanical computing machines to understand concepts like circuit design, binary operations, memory, logic gates, conditionals and truth tables.

Module 4 - Applied Powered Machines

Now that we mastered the use of simple machines, that we understand cause and effect when we change some variables, we are ready to create more complex machines adding motors to our creations.

Module 5 - Multi-Sport

Multi-Sport is a program of team athletics. Each term, students will participate in various individual athletic and team sport activities. The goal of the program is to promote active, outdoor, competitive play, build teamwork and good sportsmanship habits
